Flemish Beef stew

Post by Scotty » Sun Mar 18, 2012 10:44 am

I have this badboy on the go for tea tonight - http://www.globalgourmet.com/destinatio ... z1Ue7Vtcxf

Normally I'll use Chimay Blue but I was in B&M bargains a few weeks ago and they had bottles of Grimbergen Blonde for 69p so I thought I'd give them a try. It smells lush still.

If you do try it, try and use the redcurrant jelly and not the brown sugar. The jelly gives a better flavour.

Enjoy!

Looks great I will give it a go later in the week.

Tried it last night using the Grimbergen. Not as nice as using Chimay blue or probably even Leffe Brune. Still nice though with new potatoes and veg.

I've finally got round to buying some Rodenbach for this. Hopefully the sourness shines through. Plus I've recently bought a deep fat fryer so I can perfect my Belgian frites!

I am definitely going to make this!! Red Currant jam is difficult to find in the US though, I'll have to buy some online or look in the import section of the supermarket. Thanks for the tips on the beer and jam :D
edit: Found red currant jam in a gourmet cheese shop, bought the meat and will make it tonight.

I bought a case of Poperings Hommelbier that has a best by date of November, 2007 for $10 and I used a bottle of that. It was amazing.
Next, Julia Child's Beef Bourguignon.*

We just bought a deep frier and fry cutter but that's another project :D
