Beer and food pairing

Post by octoscott » Fri Jul 04, 2014 3:28 pm

Looking to find if anyone has any good pairings, more based on hop/malt profile than particular brands of beer.

I have an amarillo/mosaic double IPA that I had a taste of last night while taking a gravity reading and the pineapple flavour coming through is spectacular.

First thing into my head was that it would be great with jerk chicken or a really spicy indian type dish.

Anyone got any other good combos?

Crisps go pretty well with almost any kind of beer.

Seriously, this is an interesting subject - in fact I'm sure you can go on courses about it!

Not something I know anything about but I came across a four part BBC article on pairing food and beer a while back (can't remember where I found them).

Especially the salt and vinegar kettle chip type efforts in my opinion Jim.

Also thanks for the link byronb. Quite an interesting read.

Hopefully some others have a few ideas of decent beer and food they have tried together.

ANY beer will go well with cubed cheddar sprinkled with celery salt and some mustard to dip in.

There is a pub near me in Stratford St Mary (The Black Horse) that has beer and wine choices for every menu item, which is great to see as it is usually just wine that most restaurants pair with food.

I am by no means a beer tasting expert, but I tried the Trappistes Rochefort 10 with a chocolate desert and it was absolutely AMAZING!
You may get some tips from their menu online**, as it would be a long drive for you to actually pay a visit!

**EDIT: It seems they don't have a website?!
Sorry!
