Metallic flavour/aroma

Post by mysterio » Sun Nov 11, 2007 11:11 pm

I've been noticing a metallic flavour/aroma in some of my kegged beers, which seems to be prominent just after i've injected some CO2 but seems to mellow out after a few days. Could this be coming from the CO2 cylinder, or should I look elsewhere? Or is this just the natural taste of CO2/carbonic acid? Are the cylinders lined inside? I'm using the large Air Liquide cylinders.

Cheers Daab, sounds like what I suspected. I've only noticed it with this particular cylinder so it could be I was just unlucky. I would have thought food grade CO2 would be lined with plastic or something inside :?: And doesn't metal need oxygen to rust :? :?:

A local brewery called Butcombe used to have this taste / flavour in their best bitter which many people raved about, I certainly did not. Recently it has gone and is now a cracking pint IMO.
