Using Blossom

Post by bluebuzzard » Mon Dec 10, 2007 11:20 pm

Hi,

I was wondering about the use of Blossom in grain brewing and how and when should it be added? I've tried a few ales recently that mention the use of Blossom in the ale and it started me wondering about using some in my own.

I've been trying many variations on a theme trying to get a nice Orange flavour into one of my beers and so far it's met with little success. I've tried late hopping with cascade, I've used some Curacao in the fermenter (which made it spicy rather than orangey) and when it's ready the latest batch used some fresh orange zest.

Given that you can also get Honey blossom it might be a good way to go for a honey'd ale as well.

Any thoughts?

Matt

I made an ale with elderflowers this year, it was drinkable but nothing to write home about. I'd go for fruity/spicy hopping as per DaaB's tip.
