A couple of questions

Post by booldawg » Mon Feb 04, 2008 11:23 am

After my first brew on Saturday, I was left with a couple of questions;

1. The boil-off; I read that in a 5 gallon brew you lose a gallon driven off in the boil. I did keep back a gallon and added it in small amounts throughout the boil. Is it possbile just to put the whole 6 gallons to start off with?

2. My next AG will probably contain other malts than just pale. Do you mash grains such as Crystal Malt and Torrified Wheat in with the main mash or steep them in a grain bag with the boil?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, if you have space in your boiler.

Yes, mix all the grain together and then dough in with entire grain bill.

Thanks to you both, gives me a few pointer for what to do next. Guess I'll have to get to LHBS before all the hops go!
