Where to buy grain?
Where to buy grain?
I was may be thinking of starting up all grain but wasnt sure where you buy the grains from?
I know my homebrew shop can provide some but is there a better place to get them?
Also do you get them crushed or have to do that yourself, coz a mill is expensive?

You can get it whole if you have a mill and want to do it yourself, or buy it crushed. Either's fine (though will last longer if not crushed).ChrisG wrote:I was may be thinking of starting up all grain but wasnt sure where you buy the grains from?

Quite a few people get their grain from local microbreweries as it's much cheaper that way. Grain is expensive at most LHBSs at the moment ~£33 per 25kg sack. If you are buying in bulk (most people buy pale malt in bulk), then try http://www.tuckersmaltings.co.uk/. They had it at £21 for 25kg when I got the last order.
I second that - received my 25kg of MO and some other grain/hops today from Paul/Reaper at Barley Bottom - 24 hours after I put the order in.
VERY happy and I can now brew on Monday.
(Also received my Hop & Grape sundries which means together with my alkalinity test kit I can get my water sorted for the first time

Bit more expensive from them now - £28.50 crushed (Maris Otter/Lager malt) plus £6.50p&p. However, the P&P is for 30kg, so you can get another 5kg of mixed stuff like crystal/brown/amber/black/cara/wheat/roast barley/etc from them for no extra delivery cost.agentgonzo wrote:If you are buying in bulk (most people buy pale malt in bulk), then try http://www.tuckersmaltings.co.uk/. I can also highly recommend Paul at Barley Bottom - he provides an excellent service.
£29.50 for a 25Kg sack of pale malt - delivery is £7.99 up to 28Kg.
