1. put a glass under your cold water tap.
2. Slap them, tell them not to be tight and get a taxi. (prob solved and your not making crap beer)

Brilliant DaaB.DaaB wrote:Make regular lager then simmer it on he stove at 80 deg c for 30 mins, gently stirring occasionally. Add your priming sugars, allow to cool. Pitch some fresh yeast and bottle.

The other option is to plug in a kettle, mix the hot water with a tea bag and, if the driver prefers, add some milk.
Depends upon how low alcohol, low is for you. And good on you for thinking about your friends and family and wishing to do a low % beer. I commend you.
You can easily make 2.5 -3 % beer without any major differences to your batch, just use less malt. But if you're talking 1% or something .... then you will have to wait for someone wiser than I to chip in here with a good method that actually tastes like beer.
A mild, or a light lager with OG around 1.030 is going to end up 3%. Is this too high ? Served with food, and over a 3 hour time frame I would guess most folks could drink 4 - 5 glasses and still be fine by waiting one further hour. Now that amount may be considered childs' play by some but would be satifactory for others. I always keep a small pocket breathaliser handy just to be on the safe side.
One of the potential problems with really low % beer is contamination/infection. I've never done one lower than 3.5 % but I understand that at around 1% there is nothing much to preserve the beer, and extra care needs to be taken with hygiene.

There is a way of getting a lower alcohol beer. You need to do an all gain brew. It is how they did things in the old days. You sparge off your first run at the proper water levels then you do a second run with the same grain bed the sugar will be lower. Keep checking your Sg. you don't want to get below 1.006 as this has a tendency to bring out bitter flavors. Your beer after ferment will run at about 2-3%
