First AG tonight 03/04/08 - Kegged 15/04/08
Thought it was about time for a progress report on this one now that I've cracked it open:
Pros:
Clear
Good head retention
Smells fresh and hoppy
Tastes like a 'real' beer
Cons:
Too strong
Not a B&T clone brewed like this
My shed is warm and therefore so is my beer
More of an Autumn Ale than a Summer Supper

a very good thread this (and im amazed ive missed it)..
Ive just done my 4th AG and im hoping for vast improvments.
the last 3 have all been hazy still 4-5 weeks in... gutted.
this time though ill be able to rack into a corny and then put it into my temp controlled freezer at 10*C for a few weeks before supping, hopefully that will clear it better...
Looking at your pics, and others, i see you have a HLT up fairly high, feed that to a cool box (mash tun) and then out to a boiler.
Thats 3 levels. HOW do you clean or know the temp and fill, at that hight? i assume you dont drag the HLT tank down all the time...

The HLT is up high, but it's only a converted wine fermenter on a shelf, insulated with a camping mat and calibrated on the side with litre marks. I half fill with very hot water, then top up with a 5 litre enclosed jug with spout once it's on the racking. I check the temperature with a digital thermometer probe (mine has a metre of wire, which is pretty standard. I clean it (although it's never actually that dirty as it's only water and campden) by picking up the empty fermenter after brewing and cleaning/rinsing/sanitising in the bath. Or garden. Occasionally I take the tap off.
