it's sometimes known as temperature stepped infusion for the purposes of googling..

I've been doing it for years. Your efficiency will suffer a tad, but I find it's worth it for the price of an extra pound or two of grain. Mash like you would normally, completely drain the mash tun and add more water and drain. I get about 60% efficiency with my system. Make sure you add enough sparge water to get the correct amount of water before the boil. I usually end up with about 7 gallons and boil down to about 5.5.

Check my website out, there is a section on there about batch sparging. It is the uk-homebrew link in my signature. I would not call it definitive, it is a step-by-step guide based on my personal experiences.

This is a good one too

You can attain VERY good efficiencies by crushing the grains finer
I'm at 84% now that I tightened my grain mill up a bit

Like Whorst, I rarely manage to get above 60% efficiency batch sparging but, it's always consistent. I follow DaaB's method of 2 equal batches.

With the 3 links to Batch sparging you have all you need to get going.

I would read Dennys last. It the most confusing.

For the record I tend to get a brewhouse efficiency of around 75%, mash efficiency I have never worked out(which should be the true test of you mashing and sparging technique.)

I use DaaB's batch sparge calculator. I worked it all out myself from first principles the first time around, and it all agreed with DaaB's, so now I just use that.

2 equal collections
First batch topped up after the mash finishes, then 2nd batch.

Efficiencies in the mid 70s so far, no problems, works a treat, beer tastes great!
