Parti-Gyle Brewing - Quick question

Post by J_P » Mon Aug 18, 2008 5:12 pm

Hi All

I am thinking of trying parti-gyle brewing and was wondering if someone would be able to verify the rate at which the available sugars leave the mash tun.

For example I have read that taking the first third of the runnings for your strong ale and the remaining two thirds for your normal ale is a good place to start and that the first third contains half the available sugars.

Does this sound right, can anyone verify this?

Cheers

John

I've just found a couple of pages on the interweb about this one most notably this one which comes complete with a handy table to allow you to work out the gravity of each portion of the run off.

I did an excel spreadsheet a while back for this. I just uploaded it. You can find it here
