My IPA ive got in the FV has got a funny skin on its surface.
Its been in the FV for 13days now but all week its been sat at 1.020 . So 2 days ago i gave it a gentle stir to rouse it a little and today its like this.

It has a smell like cellulose primer that you would use to spray your car with.

Certainly looks infected, at i guess i would say thats a pellicle formed on the surface by a pedicoccus infection.
If im right it will end up souring the beer (lactic acid production) in fact i think those crazy belgians brew with it on purpose, you could always through in some cherry and call it a belgian lambic :D

When i got it out of the fermenter i'd give it a good loooong soak in bleach before putting a fresh brew in it again.

Ive back tracked in my head at what the cause of the infection could be. Sussed it out.

I was pissed. Which let my caring barriers down. Thirsty work waiting for the mash to end. Also being drunk made me lose track of the boil time, hence the boil ending up a 2 hour 1.

As my hop bags were huge i decided to tip the hops into the stock pot. As my stock pot aint got a tap, that meant i had no hop strainer. So like a pissed up twit i poured it out of the pot into my mashtun so it would strain through that way. (after i'd cooled it to 20c). Guess what i didnt sterilize?

Well that'll teach me not to cut corners.

The most annoying part is the hops in total cost me nearly £20.

Bad luck, MA, but at least you learnt from the mistake (don't brew while pissed!).
