Post by alefric » Thu Sep 11, 2008 9:33 pm

Please can someone clear up a couple of questions for me.

1. How do you use it

2. Should it be used in the SFV or in the keg.

Andrew

Sorry i know this has been brought up before but i can't find the threads

Thanks

Dissolve 1 Sachet of gelatine in 200ml or so of hot water . . . do not let it boil, add 1/2 a pint of beer to the hot gelatine liquid and stir . . . return to bulk of beer stiring gently to disperse.

Yes

Ok I suppose that wasn't funny  You can use it in either. I tend not to use it in a corny as the pickup tube tends to get a lot of sediment. but in a budget barrel / King Keg TT/BT etc it is fine or using it in the SFV before transferring to a bottling bucket is good as well.

Dr Oetker?

All gelatine will work, it/s just a matter of quantities to mix it.

How quick should gelatine clear the brew, is it O.K to use gelatine at about 20c?

I have recently used gelatine with a brew as I has run out of isinglas. I added to the secondary and was amazed at the gunk that ended up floating on top of the beer. I transferred to cornie and the beer was nice and clear but the crud stuck to the side of the fermenter all the way down and was a pita to clean away.

So, to emphasise Aleman's point, I wouldn't add to cornie - you really don't want that rubbish getting caught up in your tube.
