Hops in Garden

Just discovered what appears to be a hop plant? growing in the garden, I have not planted it and the wife says it has been there for years.

The hops, are quite small, could some one advice is it the right time of year for hops, and if so what do I do with them, just put them on a tray to dry?

Do they smell like hops and is there any yellow powder at the base of the 'petals/cones'

As long as You are sure they are hops then dry them on a tray in the airing cupboard. Turn them every few hours to aid the drying.
