Though i would chance it today & see if i could get 5kg of grain in my mash container
Well did using 3ltr water to 1kg grain ratio
Following sparging managed a pot Alc of 5.5% (sorry dont work in OG have old Boots hydrometer) which seemed good
Would apreciate your learned thoughts
Thanks
First full AG & need to check efficiency
Re: First full AG & need to check efficiency
Hi GT look under "recipes" in hints and tips on this forum. All the info you need is there however to calculate your efficiency you will need to be able to find your O.G........Don't know your brew length but even at 25L 5.5% ABV sounds like you did O.K
Re: First full AG & need to check efficiency
Thats low 80s efficiency GT, assuming its a 5 gallon batch.

Re: First full AG & need to check efficiency
how did the day go GT, always good to lose your AG virginity
Re: First full AG & need to check efficiency
I did my 5th AG brew the other day and I still haven't got around to working my efficiency out. I use ~5Kg MO for each 23l brew and have added crystal malt and torrified wheat to my latest recipes. I'm pretty sure I could improve my grain usage and use less than I do currently (final runnings of 1.020 suggest I could improve) but we're talking small sums of money here in the initial stages of AG brewing.
I personally wouldn't worry about efficiency so early in your AG days and just experiment. Maybe I'm wrong and should work out how to get six brews out of the same 25Kg sack of MO over the 5 brews I get currently but given what I am losing in efficiency over what I am gaining in knowledge, I'll stick with being inefficient.
