Ordered some Protoflac (is that right) from Barley Bottom, should be here for tomorrow, should I just follow the direction on the tub, or are there any other tips on how it should be used. Hopefully I shall have some clear beer :)

As i'm boiling in a pan and allowing to cool naturally over night, what is the best way to get the wort off the trub, hops etc, shall I allow to cool in pan and siphon, off
Pour hot directly into fermenter through a sieve
or any other ideas

I'm all ready now for my first brewday tomorrow, just need to sort out MT manifold and decide which recipie to go with.

Thanks for everyone's input so far 8)

Just drop the Protofloc Tablet into you boiler 15mins before the end of boil. One 2g tablet per 5gallons/25litres. It will fizz for a couple of minutes. An excellent product. :D

I know that Protofloc is made by Murphys and supplied to the trade in 2kg buckets holding 1000x2g tablets.

I don't know who make Whirlfloc.

Brupaks sell a granular form of Protofloc, which I think is made by Murphys for the trade. Brupaks just repackage into small bags.

Hope someone else can supply the origins of Whirlfloc.

The instructions for protofloc (From Murphys) are 1-2 Tablets per Hectolitre ( 0.25-0.5 Tablets per 25L) . . . which is the reason Brupaks repackage it and probably add a 'filler'

Now that mine are a powder and not a tablet I just weigh out the pro rata weights ;)
