Hi all, i would like to start AG brewing and fancy having a go with a stock pot. What i was wondering was would i be able to bring a 18l stock pot to the boil on the kitchen stove, i have a wok burner or maybe i could let the stock pot straddle to burners, i dont want to do any 5 Gallon brews, just maybe 2 or possibly 3 gallon brews to try various recipes.
Cheers
Haydn
Stock pot
Re: Stock pot
Not all wok burners are that high output, what I suggest is fill your stock pot with water and if you get it to a boil and hold it there for a while with the lid off. you will be fine
and for the sake of saving energy leave the lid on whilst bringing the the water to the boil.
Tis the only way to see if the burner is up to the job.

Re: Stock pot
A quick way of getting water boiling with a stockpot.
1. Use hot tap water to fill a FV. Treat it with Campden tablet.
2. Tip 4" into stockpot & get that heating up.
3. Fill kettles with the hot FV water & boil them then add it to the stockpot until you have enough boiling water.
This will save you a good 40 mins. (Or it does me anyways).
4. As you will have an 18L pot but will want to mash more than 18L you'll then add warm water to it in the mash tun till you reach a slightly higher than mash temp.
After mashing its just a case of waiting for it to hit boiling temp on the cooker. 20 mins'ish.
Its a PITA but saves on spending.
Give kettle a good rinse out afterwards as it foams a bit when boiling.

If you have a chinese supermarket near you they usually have a good range of stockpots from normal size to massive.
Re: Stock pot
Sod the stockpot route. Frickin fed up of it now. PITA having to boil up the 2nd pot of wort. Between now & new year im gonna convert my 60L FV into a boiler, then i can boil 1 lot of wort as it should be done.
