I will second HH pages they are very informative and clear. Also check out jims method and AG stuff. Between those you will have a clear understanding of the basic process . Also check out Daabs pages full of great info too:

But if you can hook up with another AGer you will, get the confidence to go brew without a doubt. Its not complicated, but it can be intimidating as you are learning a new skill. And once you get up and running with a few brewdays you will wounder why it felt so daunting, and also why you never started this great hobby 10 years earlier  8)

I think the problem is when people use the "technical" names for things. For example, sparge, wort & mash where things that confused the heck out of me, and still do really as I am still very new to it all. Keeping it dead simple and saying "heat your grains at X temperature for X time ........ this is called the mash".

Alot of the things I have read seem to think everyone knows what the sparge & mash stage are and will write something like,
"heat the sparge water .... fill the mash tun with the required amount of mash water".

I found even when pictures where used with these terms it was a little confusing

I'm at the bottom of the Wirral (that doesn't sound right), you're welcome to watch my next brew if you want, it won't be until the end of this month though & it'll be a week day.

Let me know if you're interested & we'll work something out.

A full day hands on, what more could you ask for?
Abbotswood Brewery Middlewich. Cheshire.
Let me know if you think that would fit the bill.
