Possibly a dumb question

Hi all,
Looking through Dave Lines BBLTYB book at the Courage Directors recipe I note that he calls for the use of 1lb of Barley syurp. Is this malt extract under another name or some thing different and if so can you still get it or what should be used as a substitute.

Yep! it was a dumb question. Found it on several on line shops. Just never seen it or heard of it. Is there something else to use instead as I noticed some kits state that 'No cheap Barley Syrup used in our kits'. Would DME by a better ingredient?

I used it and it was a great beer with a distinctive taste :D
