Problems carbonating

Post by DRB » Sat Dec 02, 2006 2:49 pm

Can anybody put their finger on bottles which dont carbonate.I primary ferment for 1 week, then secondary 1 week, boil sugar in little water add to brew then bottle, leave in warm for 2 weeks and still no bubbles flat as a pancacke.Should I up the sugar to 1 teaspoon per pint, any suggestions will be welcome. Is it worth opening the bottles and adding more sugar.

I had this problem with my first batch of turbo cider. Left to clear for too long I think. 2nd batch I left for ages as well but added a level desert spoon sugar to each one and they are much better. None of them have exploded either

So for future ref when using a high floculant yeast, how long should you leave it before bottling,7 to 10 days or as soon as the fermentation has stopped.
