Advice Please

Post by Mashman » Thu Mar 08, 2007 6:40 pm

I brewed today, Adnams Southwold Bitter from BYORAAH. No real problems for a change, brewed outside, glorious spring day.

I upped the ingredients to give 40lt but have ended up short on volume, instead of 40lt at 1040ish I have 35lt at 1050. I would really like to fill 2 cornies so would like to get up to the 40lt. I also want nearer 1040 OG for this brew.

Can anyone tell me;

a, if I add 5 lt of water what will the gravity be?.

or

b, how much water do I need to add to get 1040?

Perhaps if someone could point me in the right direction I could work it out for myself!

Thanks

Mashman

You could of course added the 9 litres to get 1040, ferment, and bottled the excess. I can't bring my self to say th-th-thROw aw-w-w-way the surplus. [-X

Throw it away? :shock: That's alcohol abuse, isn't it? :evil:

I find its easier to say 'freeze the surplus to use as a starter later, it's the ideal gravity :wink: '[/quote]

Too late now but I will remember for the future. Any special technique?

Put in a plastic bottle and leave some 'air space'. Squeeze out ALL the air prior to putting the cap on. This will allow for expansion when freezing. Also helps protect the contents as air in frozen stuff is bad and means it won't last as long!
