First Mini Mash

Post by steve_1360 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 9:11 pm

Hi guys

Did my first mini mash on Saturday using Daab's instructions & recipe

I've got a couple of questions, time will tell if its anygood :!:

When i was doing the runnings, after the 4th time the gravity was still 1030, but i stopped at this point. Was i doing something right or wrong to still have this much gravity after the 4th sparge?

Also after boil because i had a lot of runnings i had more than 5litres. It also had a gravity of 1060. So i decided to tip some away  and add water to get to 1044. The main reason i tipped it was because i only had a 5l fermenting bin. Was this the right thing to do?

Cheers Steve

Did you use 1.1kg Pale + 50g crystal as per DaaB's recipe ?

If so that's 87% efficiency - impressive for batch sparging. I suspect some other reason though 8)

I'll check my hydrometer when i get my thermometer out of the fermentation bin.

Andy i did use 1.1kg + 50g crystal as per DaaB's recipe, thats why i was wondering what had gone wrong!!
