clear stout?
clear stout?
I'm going to be kegging my stout in the next couple of days and wondered if i need to put finings in? I know i have done for lighter beers where it needs clearing but stout is as black as black can be so wont neccessary benefit from clearing for looks wise but does it help get rid of any little bits that are floating around or am i asking a silly question?
This can also depend on the yeast you use some clear very well unaided some don't.BigEd wrote:I add finings to all my beers including stouts. Just because a beer is dark doesn't mean it should be cloudy. A stout or porter is actually very dark red. If you shine a light through a pint you should see a clear, deep garnet color. In the end it is your call but I love to see that color.
Good point, the stout that i made and didn't use finings on was fermented with S04 which does a great job of settling so i felt i didn't need them.RabMaxwell wrote:This can also depend on the yeast you use some clear very well unaided some don't.BigEd wrote:I add finings to all my beers including stouts.
