beers software recommendation please
Re: beers software recommendation please
So everyone has their preferences. Best to try them all until you find one that matches your equipment and measurements. I use 3 different ones per brew. Beersmith, brewnwater and biabacus. I biab.
Some ones I haven't heard of here so worth a look I think.

I used to use brewmate and it was very good I now use Beersmith which took a bit of getting used to at first but once you have your equipment profile sorted
its very good there is quite a good database of recipes on the beersmith website which you can scale to your equipment. it also has a timer which I find very useful for hop additions etc
you can get a 21 day trial and as far as software goes its not expensive ..best advice is to try them and see what you like

Re: beers software recommendation please
I started off using beerengine, very easy to use and quick to get going with. I have just upgraded to beersmith, however getting the equipment profile right seems to be taking some time, i did 2 brews yesterday and one was 5l short and the 2nd was 3l over what I was expecting.
I managed to buy beersmith for about £10 from a Brew Adelaide in Australia when they had it on offer for 19.95 Australian dollars and after Paypal had done it things it was under £10!
I moved to beersmith because i liked the idea of the brew day timers, though i've still not used them! However I do like the inventory, being able to add recipes to the shopping basket and also being able to adding much more detail to the recipes, things like dry hopping which are not in beerengine
Beerengine was a great starting point for me and had served me well.

Brewmate has brew day timers, I find them really useful and use them every time.

Had them before Beersmith, I can remember emailing Brad to ask for them, sure I wasn't the only one demanding them.

Another brewmate vote.
Re: beers software recommendation please
+1 for Brewmate. In the past I've used Beersmith and Promash, I like the simplicity of Brewmate works well for me.
I think I've seen it mentioned that Brewmate is no longer available? replaced with Brewersfriend, looks Identical with a few extras?

Re: beers software recommendation please
ok brewers friend. This is the one I am currently using and having problems with. In theory it should be good as it offers everything! However, the grain bill doesnt' work properly for me! The hop bit is fine! I'm not sure why. It keeps changing the amount of grain I put in there by something like 100 fold! Maybe I need to download it again or sometihng! I think also it has a similar recipe function to Beers smith right? IS there access to lots of rated recipes? That in iteslf is a fantastic function of beersmith from what I hear.

Beersmith overtime, why quibble over paying about £20 because the last thing you want is your beer going TU or losing a winning recipe

I tried a few and settled on Brewmate. Not sure the version now available from the Brewersfriend website works?
I've never used Beersmith. I wouldn't use a recipe database as a reason to choose a piece of software, you can copy recipes to anywhere, and you can't really trust recipes that can be uploaded by anyone.

Try Beersmith for 30 days free, you might surprise yourself by how good it is. Not perfect of course, nothing is, but it is regularly updated and likely to continue to be so. The free ones have no incentive to keep up to date.Clibit wrote:I tried a few and settled on Brewmate. Not sure the version now available from the Brewersfriend website works?

I don't feel the need atm,the version if Brewmate I have does what I need. It's simple and it works well. Maybe in the future I'll need to change. Then I'll try Beersmith.orlando wrote: Try Beersmith for 30 days free, you might surprise yourself by how good it is. I purchased Beersmith in the recent sale. Money well spent, loving it.
You need to explore all of the settings but this is part of the fun. Maybe not for a beginner though.
