Yesterdays Brew
It's been a week now so I have just had a quick check up and it's looking good, SG 1.010 nice sweet smell and taste check confirms the nose, obviously still slightly sweet but seems well balanced, Wife had a sip, eyes light up
"That tastes professional" think she was expecting it to taste crap. Might dry hop with 10g goldings now, What do you think?
Plan on leaving it another 4 or 5 days, then rack into a clearing tank with Brupacks auxiliary finings for 2 days then into corny with Isinglass, how does that sound?

A Question for those of you who have used aux/isinglass finings, I think you have DaaB's.
Artists revival has been in in PFV for 10 days now, the SG is 1007 and is still working very slowly, I plan on fining with Aux now, do you think this is ok?
How long should I leave it in that state before racking to corny with the isinglass? it states "do not use at the same time as isinglass" on the label, I thought 2/3 days.
BTW I read somewhere that finings should be added with the temp' rising, for the last 4/5 days I have stored the PFV at about 15C, initially it was 19/21C I plan on moving it back to that when I add the aux. Ever heard of that?
I have taken a sample as it is now and will take a sample when the aux is in to see the effect for future reference.
It's shaping up really well, very promising

Thanks for that DaaB's.
Rising temp didn't seem to make sense to me either, I think I found it on an American site! the bit I temember is was something like this; "As any British brewer will tell you finings should be added with the temperature rising."
DRB, have deleted the pics from my drive but this ones quite nice.

Agree with everything you said DaaB apart from possibly the 2-3 days apart. Perhaps it depends on the Aux finings you use but at Howard Town Brewery (god, I'm starting to sound like Uncle Albert off Only Fools and Horses - "During the war..."DaaB wrote:Missed this earlier. Aux finings can be used at anytime including in the primary fermenter, they compliment the action of the issiglass. As you suspected they should be used at least 2-3 days appart otherwise they cancel each other out.

I added the aux last night, I have 2 samples and on inspection this morning there seems no difference in the clarity but the one with the aux does seems to have more 'shine' to it, (my imagination?) but more importantly it has lots of small but distinct pieces of sediment floating around the bottom. they are very visible and not what you could call cloudy.
Back from shopping and have been wielding the black thing with a button on it, so here it is Eskimobob.
Just to reiterare:
10 days in primary, SG 1007. Gently created a whirlpool and drew off a jugfull, filled a small PET bottle, mixed 50ml Aux to the remainder of the jug and gently dispersed into the main bulk, drew off another PET bottle.
The results below are after 30hrs
First sample no aux.

Second sample with aux.

Hope you can see the difference. To my eyes the aux one has more 'polish' even if it 's not any less cloudy.
