All my beers so far have had torrified wheat and crystal malt in them but I'm a blonde ale lover and love my Summer Lightening. So that's what I've made, 5.2Kg M.O., no torrified wheat and no Crystal at all as I want to give it as much chance at coming out clear as I possibly can (Crystal darkens it anyway). I used 58Gms EKG at start of boil and a bit of Challenger with 15 minutes to go (10Gms) for 24l. Well actually I doubled the whole lot up for a 10 gallon'ish brew to fill 2 kegs and a baby keg (if all goes to plan).

Just about fermented out at 5.4% ABV now which is slightly over the target (5%) but I'm more than happy at that. However, I don't see any reason why you couldn't do a single hop EKG and still get a good beer. Probably 40Gms in at start and 10 - 15Gms at 15 minutes is what I'd try, others may have better ideas.

The original recipe is in the stickies by Norm in the Recipes section if you want to be more faithful to the original.

Thanks Parva. From my tastings, albeit Discovery from a bottle and Summer Lightning from a cask; the taste I'm trying to get is closer to Discovery as I think that's what my "consumers" will prefer :) ! I certainly found Summer Lightning dryer and more bitter than Discovery. So I guess I'm looking for a sweeter / fruitier taste. Maybe I need to pop down to a pub and have a few more tasters of SL & Disco just to be sure :D .
