Quantity of water for mash/ sparge ??
Re: Quantity of water for mash/ sparge ??
Everything you did looks spot on to me. The sparge @ 73c is also well within what you should be aiming for so no worries there either. Ironically I too have just brewed up today. I was going to do a Summer Lightning but found I had no challenger hops so just went for a brew with first gold and EKG's and some maris otter, torrified wheat and chocolate malt. God knows what I'll get but that's half the fun. Here's betting that we both end up with great beer.

I've had a couple of samples from the fermentor. Tasting very promising. Even straight from the fermentor I could probably drink a pint of it. But don't think my guts would thank me for it.
I got 25L exactly from the fermentor which I bulk primed with 140g of brewing sugar. So it works out about 6g per Litre. However, I only bottled 22L due to spillages, trub and my autosyphon breaking again. I got so annoyed with my auto-syphon that I smashed what was left of it on the floor.
The auto-syphon is always the one thing that makes my brewing difficult, it's always breaking. I need to find a stainless steel one or something.
Really looking forward to trying this beer. I'll probably wait one month, try a couple of bottles and then leave it a while longer to age a bit.
Before I bottled it I took a hydrometer reading, it was 1.013. So I figured it had finished fermenting. I should really have tested over three days but I'm too lazy. So hopefully it was finished. There was still some crud sat on top that had been there for about a week (it took 14 days to ferment) and didn't sink to the bottom of the fermentor. So I figured it was all finished.
