Irish moss

Get advice on making beer from raw ingredients (malt, hops, water and yeast)

Do you rehydrate your irish moss prior to using?

It's generally 1 tsp or 5g per 5 gallons or 25 litres :)

I'm a chuck it in type.

Besides, you ARE rehydrating it.....for 15 minutes in boiling wort, then by steeping in cooling wort ;)

out of interest and not meaning to hijack the thread but did you find the whirlfloc worked? i used it last brew and i got an awful haze usualy i use moss (rehydrated). i did just chuck it in dried the last time i used it and it didnt seem to make a difference
Colin - I switched to Whirlfloc a while ago and was sceptical at first, but got good results and now use it in preference to Irish moss .... which I've never rehydrated

To be honest, I do something a little bit different each time when I'm brewing so I can't be sure. My initial reaction is yes, however I use it in conjunction with other finings.

I just bung it in and very rarely have any problems with clarity. The only significant problem I remember was when I ran out of irish moss and brewed without, that brew never did clear.
