Raised temperature to 66C. Now to wait for 1 1/2 hours Might try a starch test after 1 hout though as I am running later than planned. Sparging is going to be fun too. Thinking about dumping the grain into my mash tun and sparging as per usual.

Cheers DaaB, Will see how things are looking after 1 hour. Might start setting up for the sparge then. that will give it a bit longer.

Bu**er He's jinxed me. Sparge went ok. Turned the heat up on the Electrim, coming up to the boil it seemed to pack up. Panic! Ok don't panic, transfer it to my Burco. Hooray, boiling at last, about to throw the hops in. Damn no strainer, wait I have a hop bag, so hops are in that. Going to be nasty getting it out to throw in the flavour hops with 15 minutes to go. Course soon as I put some cold water in the Electrim it starts working again. Must be some sort of thermal cut out. Although after sparging I did move it outside, would this have done something? Done that before though.

My boiler keeps cutting out. I think it is because recently I have been doing some higher gravity brwes meaning that more sugar burns onto the elements causing it to cut out at lower temps.
I managed to get a rolling boil that kept cutting in and out so wasn't too worried.
Giving the element the usual after brew deep clean

Mines not a high gravity but the element did look dirtier than usual, Maybe because I mashed in it this time. Still down to the last 15 minutes on the boils now. Irish moss and hops been put in the hop bag don't know if that will work ok.

Bit late now, but you could have chucked the hops in loose because you can run off ok as long as you carefully open the tap and keep to a slow flow rate. That way you filter off the trub as well. My advice? Get or make a hop strainer and don't bother with hop bags.

Hi Steve I do have a hop strainer in the electrim but not in the burco as I usually use that for heating the sparge water.

Would probably have worked in the burco too. If you keep the flow rate low, the hops shouldn't pack down too tight and you can run off and filter trub.
