That is one impressive brewery 8)
Nice skills, great use of materials.
I am in awe.
It's also great to see someone not afraid to use copper brass and solder :D

Hi Kelvin welcome to the loony brewers' forum. Looks like you'll fit right in. :D Copper and steel make me envious as I still have 'La Brasserie Plastique' as the frogs would say.

Very, very cool. 8)

By the way, did you punch the holes or drill them in the false bottom?

Good gracious, Kelvin.
With that setup you could enrich uranium, let alone brew ale!
I look forward to picking your brains. :D

Welcome maltman nice little setup there i noticed you are using a central heating pump. I thought about using one in the past for my HLT has yours got a stainless impeller. You have given me an idea also. If i insulate better & clad my HLT i can place it outside my shed thus saving some room. Cheers

No way Daab only little tweaks not going to increase the volume 110 litres more than enough volume for me & the cronies. Would have loved to have gone all stainless conical ect. But nothing was available a few years back unless you got it shipped from the US.Sod-it i ain't changing thing's again or the wife will kill me.Maybe in 10 years time there will be conicals ect on the list. With all the control built in & thorough cleaning & sterilisation i cannot see conicals ect making any difference over my current set up. Cheers Daab

Maltman you are one of those guys like Rab who should have their own Microbrewery by now :) Have you been using the HLT to regulat the Mash temp with HE coils? That's pretty much like a HERMS.

This show s how stupid I am I just noticed there was another page so sorry for the delay in posting
Bigster Brains are an ignorant load of tossers I once asked what yeast they used like I'm going to be a problem they sent me a snotty email saying it was not in there interest to disclose that closly gaurded secret.
DUH
Worzel I do all types of beers and largers even stepped .My favourite are summer beers with fruit or flowers like elderflower slightly lambic .
Hi Rab that central heating pump is only on the heating side .The HLT has a heat exchanger which is coupled to an external coil on the mash tun the pump circulates between the two so I can keep mash temp constant and even increase the mash temp (once I had an internal coil with paddle but the trapped grain got to high temps .Actually never caused a problem )
The Grunfos pump is not suitable for pumping wort but I do think a stainless impeller and a brass body would make a great pump maybe the engineers among us could come up with something .

External and old internal heating coils and the heating coil in the hlt linked by the central heating pump.In the picture of the set up the white tubing linking pump to heat exchanger can be seen at the back against the wall.

Internal OLD but more heat exchange much quicker
