I asked for it when I ordered, it was about £16 IIRC + £10ish for the extra lead. Top bloke Joe.notassuch wrote:BTW, did you ask for 2 elements, or was that a later addition?

Anyone else think that the mods are getting a bit big-headed around here?Daab wrote:...he will probably be using the much easier method I suggested...

It was, of course, Daab who explained the tap drilling thing to me.

Thanks for the info Rog. I may see if Joe can do me another element for a good price.
I'm a little tentative about dismantling a cheap kettle.
And I agree, Joe is a top bloke. I went up to see him for an afternoon out. (the train fare
was more expensive than his P&P, but I had fun!) Mind you, who wouldn't
be as cool as he is if you worked with two attractive young ladies day in, day out?
He's still using the same method...Joe recently told me to grind down the o/s diameter of 15mm pipe push in the rear of tap with a couple of elbows spot soldered that takes loose strainer, found it easirer to heat the tap in hot water.DaaB wrote:
I've spoken to Joe a few years ago about this, he grinds down the diameter of the pipe so it fits in the back of the tap. Of course if he reads this forum now, he will probably be using the much easier method.
Ok, this is actually pretty easy. Just make four cuts into the 15mm copper pipe at one end (or basically two cuts at right angles to each other along the length of the pipe). The pipe is then narrow enough to push fit into the tap and because of the taper is a great fit. If my explanation sucks you can kind of see it in this picture:notassuch wrote: Do let me know. I can see myself tearing through the tap's thread, slicing my arm off and killing
my neighbours dog, with my lack of handyman skills.

..and here the finished filter ready for Saturday. Hope the slots work OK - drilling all the holes looked like too much work! (in case you're wondering, it's a Grolsch Premium Weizen
