I've used golden syrup once or twice, and whilst the beers were good I can't say I detected any "golden syrup flavour" in the final beer. I used it in a very good Bombardier clone, but I think the 500g of crystal had much more effect on the flavour!

I concede that it may add some flavour, but it's pretty light and delicate. Given that (weight for weight) it's about the same cost as brewing sugar I guess you might as well just use it anyway if that's what you fancy. Or save it for the porridge. :-)

I'm planning to use it in a blonde with nothing else but low colour MO, so hopefully there'll be some taste from it. We'll soon find out anyway.
Best wishes

I use G/S in some of my pale ales . I find because the syrup is partially inverted it gets the fermentation off to a great start. I use 454gms in a 10 gallon brew. I buy my years supply every year on pancake day at asda .Last year it was 49p for 454grms.

49p - a bit of a no-brainer then! 454g of Tate and Lyle is about £1 in Tesco.

And do you get a noticeable taste at that ratio?
