Not with a two piece as the outlet stem is above the water level.
Correct, but it doesn't make any difference. As you lift the fv it lengthens due to the weight of fluid. This creates a negative pressure in the fv.
Air gets sucked in through the airlock but because of the design, it literally sucks the sanitiser into the fv.
It's happened to me many times and the only way I've got round it is

a) not to use the damm thing
b) use very little sanitiser but that creates a problem in summer when it dries out.

In summer the sanitiser usually also has a few fruit flies in it and they get sucked into the fv as well

The offending airlock in question

I think it happens because the cap of the airlock forms a seal on the bottom of the sanitiser reservoir.

I also think this could be fixed by simply putting a notch in the bottom of the cap base to prevent this happening.

Thats the exact same airlock i regularly use. I think you have a good solution there vossy. if you cut a notch or two it would function just like daab sugested.

Infact i remember when i first got the fermenter with aforementioned airlock I ran beer out from the fermenter tap whilst the airlock was still attached. I came back 5 mins later to find the sides of the fermenter had imploded such is the seal you get with that airlock

I'm flash and use cheap vodka in my airlock. My airlock is a lot smaller than those ones on the white fermenters though - it looks like one of these
