Re: Hop and Grain supplies
Could be handy having that Welder next door too...

I notice you've put the NS hops on the site now
I should have asked the other day, can you get Hallertauer Mittelfruh hops?

Re: Hop and Grain supplies
For all of you out there living in Central/Southern/Eastern Europe, it seems Holzeis.com are now supplying English Pale malt. This has come as welcome news for me as it saves keep breaking down the grain into suitcase size bags that fit in Ryanair's tight@r$e 15kg limit!!! They also say they stock liquid yeasts such at the Wyeast Ringwood etc.
I asked them for the specs of the Pale malt, and if I read them correctly, I think they should be ok (although I'd appreciate any expert validation):
Raw Material Source:
German-grown two-row spring barley (2008 harvest).
Product Characteristics:
Processed specifically for "English" characterstics. Highly modified for use with both single- or multi-step
infusion, Perfect foundation grist for all ales, but yields great results in lager-making, too, Low protein and
glucan levels for easy lautering and high extract efficiency- Provides excellent body, pale color, and complex
maltiness to finished brew.
Recommended Quantities:
Up to 100% of total gram bill
Suitability (beer styles):
All ales (Including Stout, Porter, Belgian beers),
Parameter MIN MAX Unit
Moisture content 4.0 %
Extract (dry basis) 79-0 %
Wort colour 5.5 7.5 EBC
Wort colour 2.6 3.4 Lovibond
Boiled wort colour 7.0 9.0 EBC
Boiled wort colour 3.2 3.9 Lovibond
Protein (dry substance) 9.0 11-0 %
Protein solution 37.0 43.0 %
Hartong index (VZ 45°C) 36,0 42,0 %
Saccharification time 20 min
Viscosity (8.6%) 1.69 mPas
Friability 78.0 %
Glassiness 3.0 %
Shipping units 25 kg (55 :b) bag, 1,000 kg pallet (bagged), 1,000 kg
BigBag, bulk
Shelf life 12month (under dry storage conditions))

All the details are on the Holzeis site - who are based in Vienna. At €31.20 per 25kg of uncrushed Pale malt, I don't think the prices are that bad either. Welcome relief for us ex-pats

Re: Hop and Grain supplies
Ordered and received very promptly some hops and yeast from BarleyBottom.
Very well packaged as usual.
BarleyBottom has got to be the place to get on-line brewing goodies.

Re: Hop and Grain supplies
The devil makes work for idle hands. As some of you know I’ve gone into semi retirement at my other job, this means I’ve got my evenings and weekends back to myself. Not been one for sitting around watching the telly, I got to thinking what else could I do. To cut a long story short, Barley Bottom has launched a new website dedicated to delivering competitively priced wild bird seed, poultry food and feed accessories - aptly named Seed and Feed. As the business continues to grow more products will added to the website and hopefully we will be able to supply a full range of pet products. As an expansion of the Barley Bottom, Seed and Feed aims to be as equally successful in providing a friendly, personal & reliable delivery service. Have a look and let me know what you think.
