Wyeast Activator not swelling!
Re: Wyeast Activator not swelling!
Had this happen to me recently with a pack I've had sat in the fridge for the past 6 months, thought I'd pierced the inner bag but infact hadn't and upon pitching everything went in including the bad (oops). But nevertheless, fermentation was very active after 12 hours and is still going strong. I was rather worried however. Think I'll stick with WhiteLabs in the future tbh.

Hi Paulpaulg wrote:I have wanted to try live yeast for a while but am reluctant because of living in greece and the post taking about 2 weeks to arrive fron UK.
Do brewlabs slants suffer in the same way as the vials do with getting too hot? I am thinking maybe this is a way to get different yeasts.
The only place here in greece that stocks live yeast only has a very small selection currently only wye yeast American ale yeast
I would like to get the equivalent of white labs 022 essex ale yeast (supposedly Ridleys strain ) which I believe brewlabs can supply
thanks Paul
I would have thought youd stand more chance of a Brewlab slant surviving as its fresh, But 2 weeks in the post is a long time and if some of that is spent in Greece then the heat wont do it any good.
Its a shame this wasnt discused a bit earlier as im flying to greece in a few days and could have bought it with me and maybe posted in on to you. It may have been quicker in internal post. Is there any other yeast you are interested in, maybe I have something that I could send you. PM me if you are interested.

There must be someone on here planning to go to Corfu this summer!
Take a White Labs vial or two for Paul if you are. I go to Skiathos each summer. Wrong side of the mainland, unfortunately.
