Err, they have sold the shop, so Kevin and Mel who you emailed have gone. It has re-opened under new ownership.Meatymc wrote: ↑Mon Jul 23, 2018 11:30 amThey have also been selling off 'hardware' through facebook - found out too late however but maybe there'll be more coming on. Don't do Facebook nor ever want to.
I hope they have managed to get something out of transferring the business as I know they have been trying to sell for some time. I always made the point of asking how things were going everytime I went in the shop (which was fairly regularly as I always collected) and was able to comment on a couple of aspects of leases etc as I run a company in the commercail property field.
Although I really do wish them well I am a bit dissapointed they haven't responed to emails asking if things were OK (as soon as the site went down). I'm sure they had far bigger priorities on their minds but I have gone through a company collapse (the bloody banks fault not ours!!) albeit many years ago and our first priority was to keep in touch with customers - all of whom we managed to retain when we finally got re-sorted.
Still going to miss them and I do wish them well for the future but, as I much prefer to collect (and see what other goodies catch my eye), makes no sense it being loyal to the Hop & Grape banner. By the time you add postage, cheaper to buy locally so now trying Abbey in Kirkstall, Leeds

Err, they have obviously sold the on-line set-up (essentially the web site) but the Darlington shop/business, where I did all my purchases and which is the Hop & Grape as far as my involvement with them was concerned, is still on the market. From speaking to Kevin, they actually didn't 'own' the shop premises as such - just the lease.
Demise of Hop and Grape
So another home brew shop has bought the name basically.

Yes, I hear that the range of products offered will be rather different to those currently/previously listed for sale. It doesn't sound like a continuation of the same thing.

Sad news, H & G was the place I generally used, even called into the shop a couple times when I visited a mate up near Northallerton.

From their facebook page:
We are working very hard to match up our stock with that of The Hop and Grape so in the short term we may not have everything on the website in stock.
We will do our best to continue to offer the same level of service you received from Mel and Kevin, feel free to give me a call anytime.

Well thats promising. The last i heard, they weren't too keen to offer even grain and so on, seeming more interested in kits. No doubt time will tell.

The grain section was taken off their website, but it's back on again now.

Yep, it's gone again. Grain was on the menu this morning, now not. Hopefully he'll sort things out and return to a decent HBS.
Best wishes

Re: Demise of Hop and Grape
Looks like the grain section has gone for good, from their facebook page today:
Good morning all
The website will no longer carry grain as we feel there are better companies out there more suited to this side of the market. We intend to concentrate on the wine and beer kits as well as continuing to develop our spirits side particularly flavoured gins.
The website is continually updated with new products so please feel free to have a look, or you can still give me a call at our shop in Kidsgrove on 01782 776655 if you want something specific.

Re: Demise of Hop and Grape
When I saw Kev earlier in the year he told me trading in the first quarter had been very poor. Seems no one wanted to brew in the cold weather.
Local rumour ha sit he will be setting up a Mirco brew pub.
Now the important bit, as a local Darlo resident I got all my ingredients from H&G. Can anyone recommend a good on line shop for grain, yeast, hops etc
