Very interesting thread...

I'm only just back into kit brewing since I stopped 20 years ago  and am quite taken aback at the setup costs of AG but it seems the benefits are HUGE in comparison.

If I had the room I'd definitely go AG  but the GF will probably kill me if I tried while we live in the 1 bedroom flat

I started home brewing purely because i can't get English Ale's where i now live. Cost is of little importance to me, within reason obviously.
I kinda thought i'd brew some good beer for me to drink that's it. Now i'm totally consumed by the entire brewing experience. Can't wait for my goodies i've ordered to start arriving so i can go AG as soon as they do. I've just done kit's so far. Don't expect any great miracles at first with AG. I just like the fact that the beer you make is made and yours. Not just a bunch of tinned ingredients thrown together.

Brewing is great fun. And the end result is Beer!

For my house bitter I've been using this(will take a while to load, not a great website setup). Good stuff, although it's definatly getting past it's prime (i'm also getting very near the bottom). The only real downside is that extract beer never seems to clear as much as AG. On the other hand, its really really cheap :)

Considering how long it would take to use 25KG I would have though it would have spoiled long ago. It must do 8 brews?

With adjuncts and whatnot, about 10. And while it's past its prime towards then end, its still as good or better than a lot of the kit stuff (and much more flexible)
