I've just had a half pint of Not Tonight Dear ..... remember that one! I still have about 10 pints left, it's bloody polished, shame I cant change my vote on Haze - The Poll - but then again I cant really count 1 polished beer as the norm

If I might take my place in the hazeless hall of feckfame... I owe debts of gratitude to those who steered me in the direction of ph5.3, whirlfloc and a feckin' cold conditioning fortnight.

this beer is 50-50 lager malt and MO with brewers gold to bitter and cascade to flavour.

I'm very proud. pity i've only half a corny left... going to try it again with these gooseberry flavoured hops from NZ 8)

funny thing is, two days ago corny was COLD - and a little hazy. filled one bottle as a gift for a mate and noticed when i gave it to him yesterday (i.e. room temp) that it was completely polished. left the fridge off and the door open and voila!

perfect example of chill haze.

Just posted this in the Tap Room on the .....suppin thread but really it should be here...

I think I might have cracked this but I won't be sure for about another week.....

On a recent brew (Grumpy Bum) I got great hot/cold break and filtered out loads of trub and ended up with clear wort going into the FV, this brew has since been kegged warm conditioned for a few days and transferred to the beer fridge at 4 deg C for a week, going to leave it there for another week but early tests show with samples taken is that as the beer warms up it becomes clear, it is clear now when warmed up to 12 degrees so....fingers crossed.

My post above proved to be utter tosh as the resulting brew was as Hazy as the rest  however...my lastest ploy against haze (which I have tried with Big Kenny Scottish Ale) has worked it seems.

At the end of fermentation I crash cooled to 5 deg C, after 24 hrs added 50ml aux finings and then left it at 5 degrees c for a week. I have kegged the beer tonight, force carbonated there was no need for isinglass, this is what I have poured into a half pint glass, it's 7 degrees C at the time the photo was taken. It tastes pretty good too. It's the clearest beer I've made so far and it tastes 'better' a bit 'cleaner' the FV that I use is quite see through (the leyland 33L boiler type bucket) and at the bottom there was a 1cm layer of white yeast then a 0.5cm of grey 'gunk' which I imagine is the crap thats been hazing up my beer, I carefully transferred off this into the keg. This one is going to be my Christmas - session beer. 8)

I'm convinced a lot of the haze issue is caused by temperature. I know for a fact when I kegged my London Pride it was already clear, not crystal but, a good way there.

It's been in the shed conditioning (at very low temperatures of late) and whenever I draw off a sample to see how it's doing, it comes out cloudier than when it went in. It's been in the keg since 28/10 and I'm going to give it another 2 weeks to see what happens before I get stuck into it.

On another note, here's a pic of my Kervoennec Gold in the bottle (no secondary finings used, just Whirfloc 10min boil).

Bottled 19/11 and about to go into the shed to mature. I reckon it will get cloudy after a couple of days out there - I'll take another pic in a week and check to see how it differs.

I racked some crystal clear, star-bright beer into a cornie. After a week out in the cold, it's hazy. Warming up doesn't make the haze go away.

Any ideas? Fine again?

I've had this happen, Rack bright fined beer to the keg, then a week later its hazy, in my case it happened in the warmth of summer and I put it down to a short refermentation, possibly caused by not purging all the O2 from the keg before transfer.

Happens commercially in cask ale - Yeast Frets

can infection cause a haze before reaching the taste threshold?
