Hello Daab
Made my first brew with your inverted plate.and it worked a treat.In fact the sparge went too well.I monitored the SG, 1044 then 1025 then what seemed only a short time after I was down to 1003 and I had only collected 4.5 galls.(all readings are actual readings at 70 odd c not temp adjusted)I did not keep the grain bed floating but had no problems at all with it compacting.Efficiency was 80%. Beer was a Mild OG 1042, mashed at 66C (2.5 ltrs water per kilo grain). How does this compare with the technique you use using this system?

Well last night I tasted the Brew made from my 1st attempt at AG brewing....well impressed, thanks for the help and advice along the way, tis much appreciated.

I got 640 beer recipes from eBay, for all manner of beers, so I first typed them all into my forum, and now I'm going to start making them, please feel free to browse them (but if they are crap...please dont tell me :))

At 1.003 at 70 degs C, your adjusted SG is 1.024. If you had wanted to perceived wisdom suggests it would have been safe without risking tannins leaching out to continue down to 0.990 at 70 degs C (1.011 adjusted), perhaps that would have made your anticipated brewlength.

Same as DaaB - although I didn't go with the outer heatshield - don't have to here! My 10 Gallon Rubbermaid cooler loses about 1C over a 1 hour mash...Here's a pic with a recently installed Mashmaster thermometer added which is excellent for temp control etc;

And here's an internal shot with the line detached between the Morebeer stainless false bottom and the ball valve;

27 gallon drum insulated with 2 parts foam insulation.I am planning making a few Durden park Ales so i think i will need to cut back to 100 litre brews as i can only squeeze 50 kg of grain in O bugger. :lol: :wink:
