Wow! i wasn't expecting that! Although I'll try not to let it go to my head bearing in mind the number of competitors. Still I'm chuffed as its the first competition I've thought to enter, maybe it'll give me the boost to have a go at club or CBA competitions. The voucher will be well spent, I get most of my gear from Rob.
I'll post up the recipe tonight, its in my notebook at home.
Thanks for running the comp

Here's the recipe. If you're a Graham Wheeler brewer go no further as its the one from BYOBRA Robinsons Old Tom or v close.
I brewed it in Oct 2010, it was my 10th AG (up to 35 now).
Brew length 21l. (Looking back at GW I see the quantities below are for 19l but this what I have in my notebook)
Pale Malt 5440g
Crystal Malt 455g
Chocolate Malt 155g
White Sugar 455g
WGV 90mins 37g
Goldings 90mins 23g
Goldings 10mins 24g
yeast: SO4
OG 1078
FG about 1014
My first taste of this was overpoweringly alcoholic and sweetish I remember so I recommend bottle and leave for 2 years+ !

I'm sorry to hear the submissions was so low.
Here is mine:
Baubles 3.3%:
Grains mashed at 65 deg:
Pale ale malt 3.7kg
Munich 1kg
Dark crystal 400g
Wheat malt 200g
Aromatic 100g
Black 50g
Chic malt 50g
90 min boil:
Fuggles 60g for 60 mins.
Spices all in for 5 mins:
Cinnamon ground 4tsp
Ginger ground 2tsp
Allspice 1 tsp
Cloves whole 1tsp
Peel of 1 orange.
Fullers yeast under pitched to get more funk. Fridge set to 21 deg throughout.
OG 1042
FG 1018
I personally don't like this beer, it was made for the in laws to drink at Christmas.
If I were to do something similar again I'd double the alcohol and back of the spices.

Don't do it down. It was better than all the commercial examples of xmas beers I tasted this year.

Brodie, I think in a few months when the spices have eased a bit you will have a more easy drinking pint

you only got four entries? I was gutted my beer didnt make it in but it still hasn't conditioned and I'm not sure it's going to. Next year perhaps it should be less specific than Dark Milds. I imagine it happened that not many people had one to hand?

A devious underhand way to get more mild brewed
There were a couple more entries but I only commented on four. One was a gusher. It really was impressive, didn't stop foaming until there was a quarter of the bottle left. Luckily didn't explode on the way here!
