Adjusting ph. in HLT

Post by farleyman » Sat Feb 02, 2008 8:02 pm

Well, some say ye and some say ney to it but
I have had exellent results with adjusting the ph. of the liquor in the h.l.t.
However, one unforseen consequence of this practice has been
corrosion of the heating element. Adjustments are made when the water is cold then left o/night to heat up on a timer ready for use next day.
Where do I go from here to stop the corrosion?

Yes, that would be my answer but I have read that ph. readings are different at different temps. I have not however seen any scales
to demonstrate this.

There is no reason that PH would be different at different temps. You can't adjust PH by raising or lowering temperatures.

It can affect the reading on ph strips (apparently).
Ah. I use an electronic PH meter. Nice bit of kit left over from my Aquarist days. Pain having to calibrate every time you use it. But v accurate and not temp sensitive-within reason.
