I'm planning a 1.044 / 38IBU brew this weekend - one i've done before and like very much.
I'd normally do a 5Kg mash to get 5 Gallons. so an extra kilo of grain should give me an extra gallon of wort.
I've calculated that for that extra brewlength i'll need some extra hops, maintaining my 38IBU.
I'll also need a few more late hops....
My boiler will only cope with 5 gallons of that, so i'll do a long boil, topping up, then sparge the hops to do my liquor-back.
Am i missing anything?
is it worth the extra effort just to get 10 more bottles?
6/5 of brewlength?
You probably know better than me - but if you are having to stretch your kit it doesnt seem worth the risk of unbalancing your known good recipe. Increasing your boil lenght is going to affect the beer right, more utilisation (and its quite bitter already!), possibly more caramelisation. Sounds like really REALLY have to buy a 10 gallon setup to me (a real shiny one
