Funny fermentation

Post by scarer » Tue May 27, 2008 2:27 pm

Normally I get a good foamy head on top of my beer as it ferments out but this time on my last 2 brews the yeast has just kind of sat on top of the wort and looked gloopy.

Also there looks to be no slurry forming on the bottom. This is what it looks like after 6 days.

Is this ok, 'cos i'm dying to stir it in.

I have another brew that looks exactly the same but it is on day 8. The yeast was Nottingham, which is my usual one.

Thanks Daab

It's just weird that its happened on my current 2 fermenting brews.

I didn't do a starter, I never do I just sprinkled 2 packs of yeast on top of the foam created during aeration and they are both 20L batches. The only thing different is that I now keep my yeast in the fridge, before it was always kept at room temp.

They smell fine, yeasty but fine so I'm not overly worried just thought it was odd.
