can some one help me with this :-
I have been making beer with DME, and would like to have a bash at all grain, I have been looking at prices and can get 25Kg of crushed malted grains for about 35 quid, thats about £1.40 a kg, my DME costs me £6 Kg. So it seems worth while, but I would like to know if the conversion is sound - does 1kg of crushed grains give out the same stuff as 1kg of DME ?
thanx

I tried to figure it out in Beersmith but a quick search turned easier:

Sorry for the formatting, but yes, that's what you'd use.umpa wrote:Thanks for the info,
Just so I understand it correctly
6lbs of grain equates to 3.6lbs of dme ?
Thanks again
Ump..
As for cost over here a pound of grain is $1.5 and a pound of DME is $5. No brainer.

This assumes 100% efficiency though, ie the theoretical maximum. Most homebrewers get between 60% and 80%, so this needs to be factored in. Still way cheaper though, and makes real beer without the 'extract twang', and its much more versatile...Pounds of Pounds of Extract
