Steam management
hoping to do my first AG sometime this week, but I only have to boil a few vegetables to get the kitchen full of steam so I'm not sure what I'm going to do when I start a 90 minute boil.
has anyone ever tried any sort of steam management, like a tumble dryer hose?

Open a window & door to circulate the air & make sure SWMBO is out.

I had my window fully open today, still had to mop the walls down from condensation every few minutes. I think I may need to install an extraction fan

Don't underestimate the scale of this problem SD. I boil in a basement brewery and my ventilation is by means of opening the garage door and brewery door to create a through draft. Usually the prevailing wind means the draft comes from garage to brewery and then OUT. Occasionally it is the other way and when it is this way the car in the garage is sticky ALL-OVER. In fact even with the wind the right way ...everything is sticky
I have a toilet extract fan which I can attach to a purpose made chimney lid on my boiler. The outlet is directed outside and it works a treat...snag is you can't see what's going on, is the boil vigorous enough? is the volume decreasing as expected? etc. So more often than not I don't use it.

Bit of a tricky one this... I would suggest to boil in the smallest room you can manage, that is, assuming you have some kind of portable gas system. In which case you can have a good fan heater on full which serves to warm the air, reducing condensation. Then ventilate as rapidly as you can.
But you are probably boiling in the kitchen so just try and heat the room up as best you can, whilst replacing the air as rapidly as possible.

I set up a table outside the kitchen, and boil outside. That way, no problems. But I do have a Burco boiler, so I only have to run an electric lead.

No way would I get away with boiling wort in the kitchen, she moans during the mash never mind when the hops hit home!!
Just thought on,
she once said if I boiled up again in't house she'd leave me and go to her mothers, Mmm, might do a brew on Saturday!!

I boiled my AG in the kitchen once - the first AG I ever did.
Mrs Confused was not happy. Physiotherapy at Leicester Royal Infimary are still hopeful of being able to return my testicles to their original position but they are not sure they'll ever be round again.
Despite an open door and open window the steam was hideous, lifting paper off the walls and ceiling (which I still have to stick back from time to time). ]
Still some good came from it. I got permission for my shed, even still I always boil outside. My boiler is on a little trolley so I can mash in the shed then wheel it onto the verandah to boil.

here's an idea,place the boiler as close to an open back door as you can then get a workmate or a table of similar height to the boiler and put it about 4 feet away and put an electric fan on the table facing the back door and put it on the lowest setting.This will blow most if not all the steam straight out the door,any that comes back is minimal,no wet walls etc.Should work doing the same setup near windows too.

Mick Harrison has a nice enclosed boiler . . . There is a 3" diameter pipe coming out at right angles near the top of the Boiler . . . this turns through a right angle and points into a drain . . . A very fine nozzle injects cold water into the top of the pipe which causes instant condensation of any steam, wich runs into the drain. . . . Another benefit is that it also scrubs any aroma out of the area as well.

I boil directly under an extraction fan and with the kitchen window to the side fully open but still end up wiping the walls down. What worries me is whether that amount of steam is safe to extract through an extractor fan? It's not given up the ghost yet but given that water and electricity don't mix very well I am awaiting the circuit breaker going pop one of these days.

I brew in the garage with the front door open and it still turns into a cold dank rain forest in there.
