Hi,
I have started to AG brew recently in small batches so am quite new to this, but have a question on secondary fermenting and carbonation.
I am fermenting in FV for 7 days then racking to a second vessel and leaving in a cold place for another 7 days to drop bright then bottling.
I am bulk priming and am worried that there isnt enough yeast left in suspension to carbonate the beer in the bottles as the beer is very clear and very flat - not one bubble on top. Is this normal, will I still get carbonation or will it just take longer? Should I miss out the drop period?
Thanks
Enough yeast for secondary?
Re: Enough yeast for secondary?
Normally there will be enough yeast in suspension to do the job, unless you've brewed a high-gravity beer in which case you may want to add some come bottling time. Or say, if you've left the secondary for several weeks in the cold, then it would perhaps be a good idea to add some extra yeast, about a quarter of a gram of rehydrated dry yeast per L is more than enough.
Allow up to 3 weeks for your bottles to fully carbonate, depending on the temperature you have them at.

Don't want to pinch the thread but i've the same problem. Brewed an Old P recipe (og around 1068) in FV for 7 days until it was stable at 1016. into secondary 2 days ago and no bubbles

Re: Enough yeast for secondary?
Brought the secondary out of the cold garage into the warmth of the house. Been in a couple of days now and still no bubbles
Could it be that all the yeast settled in the primary
Should i add more now
