When transfering your runnings from the mashtun to the boiler does it matter if I dont have a tube going for the runnings to go through thus stopping air getting into the wort through splashing or do I really need to fit a tube for this ?
Reason I ask is I have just bought a 50 litre fermenting bin and converted it into a boiler using the parts from a 25 litre boiler as I was not happy about toping up the 25 Litre boiler due to the 25 litre one not having much head space for the boil and this new boiler is much taller.

No, I've never used a tube from the mash tun to the boiler and haven't seen any advice to avoid aeration at that stage. I've never had a problem.
As far as I know, most things are OK before the boil!

Re: Mash tun to boiler
This has been discussed before, here. It seems that there is a possibility, but it is unlikely to happen.
I use tubing myself as seen here, 3rd pic down. The main reason I use tubing is that my kitchen is on the small side & I did knock my mash tun once while sparging. fortunatly I did not loose any wort, but lesson learned!

Re: Mash tun to boiler
Thanks for the answers much appreciated. As I am now having to brew in the garage due to the kitchen being about as big as a small box of matches and the mother in law wont like it
I think I will go with the tube from tun to boiler.

Can't hurt, can it? I might do the same next time, having read the other thread - you never know, it might improve things
