Best use of a polypin?

I have a polypin that I use from time to time when I need a keg empty for the next brew to condition in.What I usually do is condition in a pressure keg and then transfer to the polypin for serving.This is ok but I lose the pressure and the beer is obviously flatter when served from the polypin.I do transfer carefully trying to avoid getting air into the beer.
My question is am I using the polypin correctly? ie could I put the beer into it to condition if I did not use as much or any conditioning sugar.My worry is obviuosly that it will just blow up and burst due to the pressure of the gas but I was thinking that if I filled the polypin up properly and left no space for gas to escape into would this happen?
I originally bought it full of ale that had live yeast in it (or so it said on the box)so I think that it must have undergone a secondary ferment in there originally?
Any advice form someone who uses one would be appreciated.

There have been several posts on polypins. Briefly you can put a small amount of primings when transferring from the FV or secondary FV. Then you can either keep an eye on the pressure and, when necessary, gently tilt the polypin and release the excess CO2 from the tap, ensuring that no air is allowed to enter. A safer method is to transfer beer and finings to polypin and then turn it so the tap is on the top. . Sanitise a shortish length of plastic tubing and attach one end to the tap, and have the other end in a 2/3 full bottle of water. Open the tap and you have an airlock and there will be no danger of exploding polypins :) When conditioning is complete turn the polypin right way up .I find polypins are very good to use for bottling beer.I never bother with the box but have it on a sturdy tray. When serving I put a weight on top of the polypin (tin of malt extract, gas so30 gas cylinder or whatever), this allows the tap to be opened and a glass poured off without air getting in and without the need for a third hand. If allowed to condition properly the beer shouldn't be flat.

I find 5L poly pins make great drinking hats just about the time they are 3/4 empty :lol:
