my local Indian Takeaway does a Vindaloo that will do that for you no problem...

seriously, H&G do one for about £50, but I don't know if that's cheap

Do a search on Ebay for Boiling Ring, that should give you a few options

You need a high pressure propane burner. If you can weld a frame just get the burner head, works out a lot cheaper:

You also need a high pressure regulator to supply it

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ADJUSTABLE-HIGH-P ... m153.l1262

Then you will have a portable rocket engine. They are totally awesome. You may also find searching 'Bayou Burners' on e-bay good. They use a king kooker type burner with a frame and are what I use, you can pick them up for $50 plus shipping but the regulator needs to be chucked. For my next burner I will just buy the head and weld up my own frame since I had to modify my purchased ones anyway - and re weld the Chinese 'welds' to cope with 11 gallons of wort! Subsonic

I mean't to say, steer clear of 'low pressure' burners as advertised in the UK. They are not up to the job of boiling 11 gallons. Likewise a low pressure regulator on a high pressure burner wont work very well either, (been there and done it). Aim for a 54,000BTU burner (15KW?). The links I posted are to the equipment I use and my American buddies. Its lurvely brewing on a cold day in the garage!

Keep an eye out on eBay for a Bullfinch Unilow 1365 furnace. These things are awesome and I just picked a new up one up for £50. They are designed for melting lead or big pots of bitumen! No problem with a 10 gal brew and would probably be perfectly good for 50 gallons!

As others have said - you will need a high pressure regulator. Bullfinch do a nice one (Bijou reg) adjustable from 0-2 bar.

i was told not to buy one of those Bullfinch Unilow 1365 furnaces!!

they said that it is too fierce and that it could burn the wort or even evently make a hole in the bottom of my keg

do you use these burners personally?? what are you views

Yup - I use one and I think some others here do to (I think Aleman uses the twin version).

It certainly can be a fierce beast - but it's adjustable! I also have a flame diverter for it that widens the flame pattern. ( about £7 I think)

I use a 60l MoreBeer heavy duty kettle - it has a thick base that diffuses the heat nicely. I'm not sure how it would work with a thinner bottomed keg, but I think Aleman uses kegs to great result on his set up.

My (limited to 3 brews with it so far) has been excellent. You can crank it up and get the wort boiling even before you've finished sparging, then turn it down to maintain exactly the level of boil you want. I guess you could burn the wort if you had it up too high, but you can adjust the flame at the jet itself, at the burner and at the regulator (if you get an adjustable reg such as the Bullfinch Bijou 3 0-2bar one), so you have pretty much unlimited control.

The flame diverter is the glowing piece of metal!

Here's the kettle and the burner. The bricks arrangement is temporary until I have a proper stand welded up for the kettle.

If you do a search for Paella, you will find that you can buy different Kw burners with 1,2 or 3 rings depending on what you want the price

Try these from Hop and Grape http://hopandgrape.co.uk/catalog/catalo ... no=2#items

or

I use one (the double low) for my brewery with Stainless kegs and it is excellent . . . with limitations . . . It is very easy to overheat the wort, but as they are completely adjustable it is not really an issue . . . Beer bloke uses two (unilow) to drive his 2.5BBL (~400L) kettle which gives you an idea of just what sort of output they can provide . . . as his kettle has a bottom drain he can get some caramelisation of the wort in the outlet pipe, which he deals with by leaving the copper valve slightly open and recirculating the run off throughout the boil.

I must admit the one issue of these for me is the efficiency . . I get through around 5Kg of Propane on an 80L brewday . . . If I can find a more efficient burner then I will probably change ... but keep the bullfinch for the big brewery
