ALCOHOL FLOUR??? chhaang chang recipe translation problem

Post by bog69 » Fri Dec 05, 2008 7:33 pm

what is "ALCOHOL FLOUR"?????????? ****

i have received the recipe for chang from a friend who has a tibetan friend living in belgium via india!!!!! & says

boil barley till soft
drain & lay out on clean sheet on the floor
sprinkle with alcohol flour ****
place in a covered container @ 15C ish, for a week or so until it smells
pour 2 litres of water over barley & leave
drink when ready

i get the gist of the recipe & understand that they make the recipe as they see fit & not to exact measurents
i have ordered a tibetan recipe book & will see what says.

WHEN MY FRIEND SAID YEAST HE SAID HE WASNT SURE AS HE ONLY KNEW IT AS ALCOHOL FLOUR. HE DID LIVE IN TIBET UNTIL HE WAS A TEENAGER I THINK & THEN INDIA.

THERE ANOTHER RECIPE FROM A LONELY PLANET GUIDE BOOK THAT SAYS USE BURGANDY YEAST BUT THAT IS PUT IN A LIQUID NOT ON THE WET GRAINS.

I WILL PROBABLY DO THE LIQUID CHANG BUT WOULD ALSO LIKE TO DO THE MUG OF GRAIN VERSION 1ST

Heheh. I love the part of the instructions that says "until it smells".

Somebody once told me how they make beer in prison, they`ed store any fruit they could get their hands on, then collect the little sugar sachets, get some bread and add everything into a ziplock bag and leave it to ferment, said it taste like shit but it was alcohol, i thought it was quite clever, never tried it though, i`ll stick to my TCP beer :D
