Re: New to Lager.
Mrs H's lager has been brewed a few times by forum members. The recipe is on this page.
Re: New to Lager.
Horden does your lager need to be lagered or can it be brewed at normal temps, Im only asking as i dont have the facilities to lager at the moment this is going to be sorted some time in the future though. Also which yeast did you use fo it ?

Damfoose . . . You have the perfect opportunity to lager at the moment using the big free fridge with the blue roof
I will answer the OP's request with a question . . . Just what sort of lager is it you are brewing?
There are as many styles of lager as there are ales each one more than slightly different to the last

Re: New to Lager.
I try to ferment Mrs H's lagers around the 12c-15c mark, which is why I tend to brew them in the winter months as I don't have lagering facilities myself. The lager grains are on order now, just waiting for the delivery & my Christmas hols to get stuck into them! I use Saflager S-23 in the lagers I brew, the recommended temperature for this yeast is 9c-15, ideally 12c.Damfoose wrote:Horden does your lager need to be lagered or can it be brewed at normal temps, Im only asking as i dont have the facilities to lager at the moment this is going to be sorted some time in the future though. Re: New to Lager.
My first lager is finishing its primary fermentation as we speak. Can lagering be done in a corny or is it best to transfer to a secondary FV for the lagering period then a corny?

My normal practice is to transfer to a secondary FV and then Lager in the Secondary, as you are going to drop out some haze forming matter . . . . Due to a bad back and badly placed FV/Lager chamber then this time I just used an extended Primary (at 2C) before dropping the lager into 3 1/2 cornies, which when the back has decided to play ball is going into the Lager chamber . . . at the moment I'm using the free big fridge with the blue roof . . . . although that has decided to warm up now . . . . I will be checking on lagering process using the 9L cornyEportJake wrote:Can lagering be done in a corny or is it best to transfer to a secondary FV for the lagering period then a corny?
